Why Now

Romania has another story.
And it's written on skin.

In the 1990s, footage from Romania's orphanages traveled the world. The image stuck — and the children carried it for the rest of their lives. Today, those children are young adults aging out of state care, often without family, housing, or a path forward. Society still reads them by what's on the surface.

"And yet, they're the next generation of writers, builders, and survivors. A new source of hope — if anyone chooses to look again."

Decades of headlines.

Romania is still recognized abroad by how it once treated its children.

A generation aging out.

Young adults leaving state care, often without family, housing, or a path forward.

An audience that listens.

The U.S. is home to one of the largest Romanian diasporas in the world.

The Campaign

Each tattoo is
a chapter.

A mark. A memory. A line they wrote themselves. It looks like self-expression — it's a chapter. A parent they lost. A companion they found. A promise to keep going. These young people don't have albums or houses with photos on the wall. So they wrote their lives onto themselves. Not as rebellion, but as authorship. Each tattoo is a chapter. A loss preserved. A hope drawn into permanence.

Authorship

"They documented themselves."

Resilience

"He wrote this chapter alone."

Memory

"When no one preserved her story, she did."

Voice

"This is not a tattoo. It's a recording."
